Should I do this on my own?
Self-Guided vs. guided
on your own
Self-Guided climbing
The Via Ferrata climbing park on Takaka Hill is free for the public to use by anyone equipped with the appropriate safety gear. Most people with a reasonable level of fitness and a sense of adventure can usually complete at least some of the routes and enjoy the experience.
The park offers three routes of increasing difficulty, with emergency exits available along the way if the challenge becomes too demanding. The intention is for this to be an activity that can be undertaken independently, without the need for a guide.
All required climbing equipment can be hired nearby from the Ngarua Caves shop, which is how the vast majority of visitors choose to experience this outdoor adventure.
